PenSPRA's 2026-2029 Strategic Plan

The PenSPRA Executive Board, comprised of member volunteers from across the Commonwealth, approved the 2026-2029 Strategic Plan during the March 2026 Board meeting. The new plan establishes a clear vision to guide the organization over the next three years. Developed with member needs in mind, the plan centers on strengthening professional learning, expanding member engagement, and advancing the role of school communications across Pennsylvania.

Goal #1: Community of Support

Goal

Foster an engaged and supportive communications community that enhances collaboration, knowledge sharing, and resource sharing among members.

Theory of Action

If we cultivate an active, supportive communications community where all those responsible for school communications, whether in their title or not, can access a lifeline of resources, expertise and personal support and recognition, then we will empower their success as school communicators, leading to increased growth and diversity in PenSPRA’s membership and overall improved outcomes for our students and schools.

Objectives

1.1. Actively support and engage all individuals involved in school communications.

1.2. Expand shared resources and expertise among members to enhance communication efficiency and effectiveness.

1.3. Celebrate and recognize the achievements and contributions of our members.

Goal #2: Credible Authority

Goal

Establish PenSPRA as the premier communication authority in Pennsylvania, recognized for leadership and expertise in school communications.

Theory of Action

If we collaborate with other professional organizations and leverage our networks and resources to gain credibility in the field of school communications, then we will elevate the perception of school communicators, increasing their value and respect within each school and the broader educational system, ultimately fostering a strong desire for robust communication teams that are recognized as essential partners by superintendents, board members, and other leaders.

Objectives

2.1 Leverage our network of resources to facilitate Pennsylvania-appropriate information-sharing and recommendations on key communication trends and issues impacting our membership.

2.2 Intentionally increase statewide visibility and partnerships with other professional organizations to position PenSPRA as the leading communication resource.

2.3 Proactively drive public relations efforts in Pennsylvania to increase awareness of the organization’s leadership work and the positive impact on schools and school communications.

Goal #3: Sustainable Growth

Goal

Strengthen the structure, systems and resources of PenSPRA to ensure long-term sustainability and member value while fostering a reputation for excellence in school communications.

Theory of Action

If we examine the operational structures, systems, and resources of PenSPRA through a lens of continuous, data-driven improvement and innovation aimed at enhancing membership experience and value, then we will establish a strong foundation for sustainable growth and build a reputation for excellence in nonprofit association leadership.

Objectives

3.1 Ensure financial viability while exploring avenues for growth and expansion.

3.2 Develop and enhance the infrastructure and systems necessary to support operational growth and effective member service.

3.3 Utilize data and evidence-based research to inform decision-making and drive initiatives.

3.4 Earn national recognition and visibility to enhance credibility and support the ongoing growth of PenSPRA.
