Message from Symposium Chair Greg Hayes
As school communications professionals, we know this work never stands still. New challenges, rising expectations, and evolving tools require us to keep learning, stay connected, and continually sharpen our practice. One of PenSPRA’s greatest strengths is the collective expertise within our membership, and each month brings new opportunities to learn from one another.
I’ve valued that network since joining the board in 2012, just a couple of years after starting my role at Williamsport Area School District. The statewide connections I’ve built through PenSPRA have been essential. While our jobs may look different from district to district, the heart of the work remains the same. This is a profession where it helps to have people you can share experiences with, rely on, and turn to for support. That common understanding is what keeps me involved year after year.
As symposium chair, I see that same spirit in action as our committee discusses emerging trends, communications challenges, and legislative developments at both the state and federal levels. The conversations we have are important, and our goal is to distill all of it into meaningful, relevant professional development for you. When I think back to my early years on the board (when social media was still reshaping how schools communicated), it’s remarkable to see how quickly new technologies continue to change the landscape. Yet the constant is this: It’s all in how we use our tools, and in knowing and understanding them.
PenSPRA remains committed to offering engaging ways for you to grow your skills and strengthen your PR toolbox. Your participation — whether attending training, offering ideas, or simply connecting with a colleague — helps make that possible. Together, we continue to elevate the story of public education and support the communities we serve.
Thank you for the work you do and for the dedication you bring to our field.
Sincerely,
Greg Hayes
