It is with great disappointment that we have once again found it necessary to reschedule the annual PenSPRA Symposium. The Symposium scheduled for October 1 and 2, 2020, is now being rescheduled (again) for April 15 and 16, 2021.
We know that you are disappointed, as are we. Back in March when we rescheduled for October, none of us thought we would still be working and learning remotely due to the pandemic, but here we are. Most of the districts in southeastern Pennsylvania opened fully online, and many of the districts throughout the commonwealth are either fully online or on a hybrid schedule. Indoor gatherings are still limited to 25 persons by order of the Governor, and many of our school districts have banned all non-essential staff travel.
During times of crisis, it is often a great relief to spend time with your colleagues in order to share plans, bounce ideas off of one another and renew energy. However, the number of Coronavirus cases in the United States continues to grow, and we are all hoping that there will not be a Labor Day effect like there was a Memorial Day and Independence Day effect.
As a result, many of us have been spending our days (and nights and weekends) creating, updating and revising school safety plans, letters to parents regarding the latest COVID-19 positive test results and crafting communications to our stakeholders and reviewing next steps. All of this has left little spare time for us to do our normal day-to-day communication tasks, which we still must do.
Therefore, the Executive Board came to the conclusion that in the best interest of our members, their families and their coworkers, postponing the conference until the spring was the best course of action.
We hope that you will be able to join us in April. We made arrangements with the hotel, and if you have already booked your room, it will be automatically cancelled. However, if you plan to join us in April, you will have to rebook your hotel room. A link for rebooking will be sent to all members who registered for the symposium.
Your PenSPRA Symposium registration will automatically carry over for April. If you plan on joining us on April 15 and 16, you need not take any further action as far as registering for the symposium. However, we understand that the new dates may not work for you and your schedule, so if you would like a refund, please contact Marta Howard at MartaH@cciu.org or 484-237-5171.
We look forward to seeing everyone in person in April at the PenSPRA Symposium!
Thank you for understanding regarding the symposium, and please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
